How diet and allergen flags work
Standard, Vegetarian and Vegan flags and allergen warnings are based on our ingredient catalog plus what you and your household enter. They describe a generic ingredient, not the specific product you buy. Where an ingredient commonly varies by brand — for example cheese made with animal rennet, stocks, sauces such as Worcestershire or fish-based sauces, and processed plant-based products — the app asks you to check the label instead of marking it compatible.
Labels decide, not the app
- Product recipes and ingredients change. Always read the label of the product you are actually using.
- The app never guarantees a meal is allergen-free and cannot know about cross-contact in factories, stores or your kitchen.
- An ingredient marked "unknown" or "check label" is never shown as compatible.
Dates are for organizing
Purchase dates, best-by, use-by and opened dates you record help you keep track and prompt a date review. They are not a judgment that food is safe or unsafe to eat. Use your own judgment and official food-safety guidance.
Substitutions
Suggested alternatives come from a reviewed rule catalog with ratios and preparation notes. They describe culinary differences such as flavor or texture (for example, Greek yogurt is tangier than sour cream). They do not claim nutritional equivalence, and a substitute may contain an allergen the original did not — the app blocks known conflicts with your settings, but you must still check.
No savings or waste claims
We don't promise that using the app will save money or reduce food waste. The app shows what you need, what you have and what to buy; results depend on how you use it.
