cookingplan.app uses AI in one narrow place, and only if it is turned on. Everything that changes your plan, list or stock is ordinary, tested application code.
Where AI is used
When enabled on this deployment, AI can read recipe text you paste or a recipe photo you upload and produce a draft: a title, servings, ingredient lines and steps. AI recipe import is optional and off by default. It can run on a cloud provider (Anthropic) or a locally hosted model (Ollama), depending on how the Service is configured. Without AI, pasted text is split by a deterministic parser and you can always enter recipes by hand.
A person reviews everything
An imported recipe is always a draft. Each line is matched against our ingredient catalog and shown with its original text, and uncertain lines are flagged. Nothing is saved as a recipe until a household member reviews it and presses Confirm recipe.
What AI never does
- Never changes inventory, quantities on hand, purchases or cooking records.
- Never changes diet, allergy or exclusion settings.
- Never decides grocery quantities, package rounding or unit conversions — those come from deterministic, tested calculations.
- Never invents substitution ratios. Substitutions come from a reviewed rule catalog, not from AI.
- Never acts on instructions written inside a recipe; recipe content is treated purely as data.
Your data and training
Only the text or photo being imported is sent to the AI — no household data, no account details. Household data is not used to train AI models, by us or (under our provider terms) by the provider.
Limits
AI can misread handwriting, fractions, units, servings and ingredient names, or miss lines entirely. That is why review is mandatory. Check every quantity and unit against the original before confirming.
Usage limits
AI imports are metered per household per month according to your plan.
